Office of the Principal

Dan Garza, the principal of Rice Challenge Academy High School and completing my 30th year in the public education profession. I started my career in education as an English teacher/coach for several years, served eight years as an Athletic Director head football coach, and 11 years as a campus administrator. I am an enlisted Army veteran, a 1989 graduate-commissioned Army Infantry officer of the Texas A&I ROTC program, a 1991 graduate from Texas A&I University with a Bachelor of Arts in English/P.E., and a 2004 graduate of Texas A&M-Kingsville University with a Master of Science in Educational Administration.

This is my fourth year as Rice Challenge Academy High School Principal and it has been an honor to be a part of Rice Consolidated ISD, and to also work together with the Texas Challenge Academy program. The Texas Challenge Academy program works under the Texas Military Department and Army National Guard. The goal of the academy is to serve at risk students who need a second or third chance of success addressing 8 core components which includes academic excellence. Our high school’s objective is to help our students recover credits, earn a GED or even a Rice Consolidated ISD high school diploma.

My wife Erica and I have been married for 34 years and she has been a teacher/coach in the education profession for 31 years. We raised four daughters; Victoria business profession, Chloe math teacher/coach for Poteet ISD, Madeleine English teacher/cheer coach for Pettus ISD, and Caroline a junior in college working on her teaching degree.
